Session: Fostering Inclusive Workplaces: The Power of Allyship in Tech
Join me in exploring allyship in the workplace, specifically addressing its significance in creating inclusive environments for women in tech, a traditionally male-dominated industry. Allyship, defined as active support for underrepresented groups, is crucial for breaking gender barriers. This talk delves into the role of men as allies, emphasising the need for proactive engagement to drive real change. I will share real and personal experiences and offer practical advice for women seeking collaboration with male allies. Witness the positive impact of allyship through examples where active support elevates women in tech, fostering trust and confidence. Finally, discover effective strategies for male allies to navigate situations of gender bias or harassment, promoting open communication and empathy for a more equitable workplace.
Bio
Engineering team leader with a mixed background in industry and academy. I hold a PhD in Algorithm Engineering and have professional experience in several tech stacks (Java / Spring, C++, python). I love as much problem abstraction (aka puzzles), understanding the big picture and having an impact, as well as coaching & mentoring others. Strong believer that an effective team is built from a cohesive team of empowered individuals whose collective power is greater than the sum of the parts. Curious, fast learner, persistent, will challenge when something does not seem right and encourage my team to do the same.
